Steps mini decks paint problems

Does anyone else have a hard time with paint on steps and decks? It seems like paint starts to chip and flake within a year. Thanks.

That’s just usual wear and tear. Try a two part epoxy on metal steps. It will be more expensive than your normal paint but will last longer.

Are you talking metal steps/decks or wooden steps/decks? We only use wood, and we never paint them. We stain them.

Hope this helps,

We use wood. Sometimes we paint over the previous owners paint but its very time consuming to scrape and paint. Thanks for the feedback.

Definitely don’t use an epoxy on wood. Aimed toward metal surfaced.

Try a deck coating. Scrape and stain would cost about the same as replacing them.

HD and Lowes both have a product (Deck Restore or similar name). It is very thick and covers small cracks, etc. I used it on my own redwood deck and it works well - it costs about twice as much as regular paint.
