Anyone have any experience with having an older, single wide mobile home that has a raised/step up room on one end? The trailer is 14 x 80 and has a kitchen on the end that is raised up about 2 ft higher than the rest of the unit.(built this way so that it has storage underneath, accessible from the exterior)
I’ve been told by a couple movers that they won’t touch it because they’ve had them to break in two in the past when moving.
Is this pretty much common knowledge/standard practice for movers? If so, I completely understand. My plan B is to have that raised room cut off, which would require the hitch/tongue to be cut off and re-welded to the remainder of the trailer and to have a new wall built on the open end before having what would then be an all one level 14 x 65 trailer to move. Has anyone ever done anything similar to this? Thank you
Movers in the business a long time have knowledge of certain older home having common issues. In the 1980’s certain manufacturers used a weaker structural steel configuration for the frame that was prone to bending on move, for example.
In your specific case I would pass and look for a home that does not need the modifications you are talking about…that seems very extreme regarding time and money.

Out of curiosity, what year was the home built?
