Is there a rule of thumb for how far away to look for used homes? Is 100 miles too far? North Carolina move to Virginia? There is not a ton of used homes to buy close to where I am but not sure what is reasonable for a move from a cost and damage standpoint.
The farthest I have moved a home so Far has been from San Diego, CA to Redding, CA. Which is about 670 miles.
Once the home is hooked up to the Toter, it’s on them to ensure it arrives safely at the destination. They usually put new wheels and tires on it. I did one where they ended up welding an additional axle to it because the floors had ceramic tile installed.
I have moved several homes from my high-value parks in San Diego to my low-value park in Redding.
Trucking is killing me, at least the homes are “almost” free.
Thanks! This makes sense. So basically you have to have your Redding guy drive to Sandiego, pick the home up then drive back and setup? So the driver is at 1340 miles?
I am from Indiana, close to Ohio. I used to find used homes for a guy who had parks in Iowa. He moved a few homes from Indiana/Ohio all the way to Iowa. After moving a few homes he decided it was too far to move homes. He had homes loose siding and other small damage. The longer you haul a home the better chance of having problems. You can do it, but like anything that has moving parts, the longer you move it, the higher chance of problems. Personally I don’t like to move homes more than a couple of hours. We can find homes within that range so no need to complicate things for us.
The opposite. He’s my San Diego guy. We have lots of pull-out homes down here because new homes are so expensive ($270K and up). Most of the old pull-outs go to Mexico.
He picks it up here in SoCal, transports it to Redding, then comes home empty.
Yes, about 1,300 miles round-trip.
