Fixing up an Old 1978 Marshfield Mobile Home

In about 6 moths I will have the option to purchase my grandma’s trailer. Someone has lived there in-between when she passed. I know it’s an older trailer but the floor and bones of the trailer is really nicely kept up. My grandma was meticulous about keeping up on the maintenance of her trailer.

I need some advice as this is my first remodel and my first home. It will need outside paint. Strip paint from the wood panels on the inside of the house, new flooring, windows, etc. Any advice will help. I am so excited that I can barely wait for the 6 month period to be over. I’m trying to stay grounded, and do my research!

Expect the unexpected.

Look for possible water damage. Windows, Doors, Roofs, plumbing, hot water heaters, ect can all have had water damage in those areas at some point that is not always easy to catch.

Check under the home, how is the insulation on the underbelly? Check tie downs and make sure it looks blocked up well.

Many times these older homes need some new sub floor, or an overlay on top of the original sub floors, to make them stable long term.

Make sure you have a plan for the roof. If it original metal? is it rusting? You will likely have to coat it at some point, maybe multiple times over the years.
Or maybe consider a metal roof.

There is always more work than you initially see on these old home rehabs, good luck
