Hello! Here are some recommendations and things to consider when you’re shopping for solar LED Security Lights.

  1. Identify locations around your property that get 4-6 hours of DIRECT sunlight most days. That is where you will want to install the solar lights. A benefit of solar lights is the fact that they require no wiring and can be placed in locations that would be difficult or expensive to install electric or gas lights. So as long as you make sure you’re getting that 4-6 hours of direct sunlight, you can get creative in the placement of your lights.

  2. It’s best to get lights that have some kind of warranty and can provide replacement parts. Gama Sonic Solar lights all come with a 2-year limited warranty, and most of our parts – including batteries, bulbs, LED lamps, and solar panels – can be replaced. This will help you save money by keeping you from having to replace the entire light if something is damaged. Our batteries are designed to last for approximately 3 years, and our bulbs and LED lamps are designed to last for about 10 years.

  3. You’ll want to consider how bright of a light you need. Home Depot has a good guide on how many lumens (a standard measure of brightness) you need for outdoor lights (https://www.homedepot.com/c/ab/how-many-lumens-needed-for-outdoor-lighting/9ba683603be9fa5395fab90170e343cd). Below is a list of recommended LED lumens for specific outdoor lighting:

  • Step lights: 12-100 lumens
  • Hardscape lights (on walls): 50-185 lumens
  • Landscape lights: 50-300 lumens
  • Path lights: 100-200 lumens
  • Landscape spotlights: 120 lumens
  • Lamp posts: 120-180 lumens
  • Pond/pool lights: 200-400 lumens
  • Motion sensor lights: 300-700 lumens
  • Floodlights: 700-1300 lumens

Gama Sonic offers many different styles of solar lights across nearly all those categories. Our two most popular Solar Security Lights are motion-sensitive and shine with 1440 lumens (for the large GS-201 model) and 720 lumens (for the smaller GS-101 model).

If you have any more questions about solar lights, we’d be happy to help you answer them. Solar doesn’t work for everyone in every situation, but it can be an ideal solution for the right use case. Send me an email at mj@gamasonic.com, and I’ll be happy to help you out.

The main point of installing solar powered spotlights outdoors is to illuminate areas outside, whether it’s to put a beautiful garden center-stage or to add security to your lawn. So, when purchasing your solar panels and lights, ensure that they have a high brightness level.
If you settle for a product with a weak number of lumens, you risk not being able to light up your outdoor space. Spotlights with lower brightness can only create a dim effect without the luminosity you had been hoping for.
