Re: strange water line problem

Aw, another brilliant idea gone bad. The inspector flat out did not like the idea of a box with electrical fixtures anywhere near a water line that could potentially burst. I do like to keep the inspector happy so I came up with another idea that got his OK. You can buy self-regulating submersible heat cable for use in gutters and downspouts and it can actually be put into standing water. The wire uses 6 watts per foot and you just put a plug on one end and plug it into a receptacle. I figure I need 18 feet of the stuff so that’s about the equivalent of a 100 watt bulb inside the box. This should be just enough to keep the water and air temps inside the crock and box above freezing.
