Flood Map - Google Earth

I’m trying to buy my first park and while quickly going through parks for sale, I have a set of criteria that immediately take a park out of the running. One of those items is if the park is in a “flood zone”. I’ve been going to the fema website, typing in an address and then spending forever trying to actually pinpoint my park using their silly tool to see if it is in a flood zone. Maybe I’m just not as savy as others at this, but sometimes it can take up to 30 minutes to figure it out.

Well, I found a MUCH easier way and hopefully this will be helpful to others out there.

Via the Google Earth application, you can import the FEMA flood map. See here for details. NOPAGETAB_NFHLWMS_KMZ . Download the “Stay Dry” file and you are on your way.

Maybe this is common knowledge out there and I was just late to the game, but this is saving me a ton of time while going thru parks.
