This cardboard type exterior siding is most commonly called, “Masonite”. It humid areas this stuff will rot out over time, mostly around windows, doors and the bottom of the home.
In the past I have had success covering up the rotted section with a 2 x 8 piece of wood that looks like trim. Once painted, it adds a little flair to the home.
