Mobile Home Park...Re-Developed....Higher & Better Use...Beautiful, Plantation Property..."Gone With The Wind"

Mobile Home Park - Plantation Style - 92 Grand Trees - Being Redeveloped - Higher & Better Use For Land:

Below is an article concerning a Mobile Home Park (just across the river from Downtown Charleston) that is being redeveloped into a Single Family Development.

This Mobile Home Park is a gorgeous, marsh-front property with 92 Grand Trees. From the Street the property has Mobile Homes on the south side of the property leading to a Plantation Style home lived in by the Mom & Pop Owners.

Below is some information about the “Mom & Pop” Owners of the Mobile Home Park (who live on the same parcel of land):

"Thomas Campbell and his wife Dorothy Knuppel have owned and lived on the 7-acre parcel next to their mobile home park property for the past 18 years. Campbell said as they aged, he and his wife worried they wouldn’t be able to maintain the large sites for much longer.

The couple has been approached many times over the years by prospective buyers, charmed primarily by the scenic, oak tree-lined path leading to their plantation-style home."

As per the article concerning the Developer:

"But Crescent Homes was the only firm that earned their trust, Campbell said. They entered a Memorandum of Agreement about a year ago to sell both properties to the local development firm once its plans were OK’d by the city.

All but about 14 of the property’s 92 grand trees will be preserved. And the company has promised to build four affordable homes elsewhere in the neighborhood in an effort to offset the loss of the mobile home park."

This area is just across the river from Downtown Charleston (thus highly desirable).

I remember riding through this neighborhood decades ago and seeing the beauty of the land and surroundings.

Unfortunately, most of the homes in the surrounding neighborhood were/are older and in need of major repair.
